Hey guys I just wanted to see if anybody had any tips they could give me, once i get out of my finals today im pulling the getrag to install my fidanza and spec 3 clutch. I have done it before but i wont have access to air tools this time.... so it will take me a little longer, but it needs to get done since my clutch is sliping at almost any throttle position...so if anybody has any input at all that may be of help please post up...

Thanks, Jeff

I just changed mine yesterday he he! But I did it at work with a lift and air tools. I almost think it would be easier to yank the engine and trans as one piece out of the top. Cause I know it was a pain in the a$$ to yank it out of the bottom of the engine bay. GM made it a very tight fit. Unfortunatly I was in a bind and was low on cash so I had to put an oem clutch in it for now.

I swapped out a tranny twice and even swapped out a motor without any air tools. It is definately do-able. I agree sometimes it alsmost seems easier to pull the motor and tranny together to do the swap. As long as you have patience, and a friend to help you, you can pull it out easily enough with the motor in the car. If you have any specfiic questions, hit me up. I'd be glad to help you out.

Drop the subframe out of the bottom keeping the steering in the car. Then prop the motor and tranny and remove the lower motor mount and both of the transmission mounts. Make sure to disconnect all sensors and lines to the tranny. Then lower the motor and tranny at the same time. The engine/tranny combo will swing down together until you clear the fender. Then the tranny pulls clean off the motor (with a little help from a pry bar). You should have no problems with this setup as long as your exhaust will pivot with this extreme angle of the motor. The only time you should need another person's help is to pull the tranny from the motor. It is probably 100 lbs dry. You'll also need another person to put the tranny back in and to help bleed the clutch. I also recommend keeping everything in a seperate ziplock bag and organized with labels on the bags like: "tranny to motor bolts," "subframe bolts," "A-arm bolts," etc. This way you're sure to get everything back on the car in the right spot. Also, be sure to drive the car and then torque everything down again to be sure.

Good luck. I don't plan on doing it ever again. I like to do things right the first time.

This sounds like a huge pain in the ass that I'm not looking forward to, haha. Hopefully I can sweet talk my buddy into using his lift.

fwd trannies suck, its worth the $300 bux to have someone else install it At the same time you might as well get a LSD since they're gonna have your tranny out muahaha

Well as a little update for everyone....i still havent been able to pull the trans, The day I planned on doing it, the other manager who was going to cover my shift had to go to the er he wasnt feeling to good. Turns out he needed an emergency appendicectomy, and since then I have been opening every day at work and leaving at night. By that time im too tired to work. He should be back on the fourth of january Hopefully!

But i only live literally 3 miles from work, plus one of my best friends is letting me use his 95 dakota sport as transportation.

Just a little update- I pulled the engine as well and replaced the oil pan gasket to fix my oil leak, turns out my rear main seal is doing ok. Since everything was out of the engine bay i pulled all my a/c componets out of the car up to the firewall. poly trans bushings are installed and i should have a TG LSD headed my way shortly, so i will not be installing the trans just yet.

Also will be pulling my control arms for the poly bushing install this weekend, and once the TG insert is in i will install the fidanza and spec and get everything all buttoned up. Then shortly after the breakin period I will reinstalll my msd and crane Rockers and purchase HPT software for a little bit of tuning.

So im happy that the clutch finally went as timing couldnt be any better. i'm still driving the dakota sport and with any luck this summer i will have the fastest stock internaled N/A ohv cav in the chicago area.
