Hello to all! I have a '95 Sunfire 2.2, 3T40(3 spd. auto) tranny. When slowing down from highway speed (55 mph or so) to a complete stop, the car always stalls. The car will start bucking @ about 10 mph, getting worse until I completely stop, at which point the car dies. It feels equivalent to stopping with a manual tranny and not pressing in the clutch. If I let the engine stall, then put it in P and start it, then put it back in D, it will immediately stall again. It will usually take many attempts to get it to drive again. If when it starts bucking I speed up, the problem will go away and will not return until I hit highway speed again. Also, in case these two issues may be connected, soon after this stalling problem surfaced, the car has started making a grinding/whining sound whenever I turn left. The farther I turn left, the louder the sound. I replaced the head gasket, valve cover gasket, and did a tune-up this summer (air filter, plugs, fresh tranny filter and fluid, two oil changes and filters, fresh coolant, thermostat, etc.). I wanted to try bypassing the tccs, but the Haynes manual doesn't mention the tccs at all. I'm stuck, and this is a huge problem because I need this car for work. Sounds like the lock up converter is not dis-engaging. I believe there is a blue square plug in the front you can unplug. Then take it for a drive.This will allow the RPMS to be higher at highway speeds.

Thanks for your help, John!!! That solved the problem for now until I can get that solenoid replaced. I apologize for not replying back to you sooner; been working a lot lately and my internet service was also out for a week But anyways, thanks again as you helped me out of a desperate situation.

you lose some gas mileage unplugging it, but its a quick fix until you get a new solenoid
