I have 1999 sunfire GT 4 speed trans auto can I rermove the axle without a axle puller, will I damage the c-clip that holds the axle in th trans, I notice I didn't get a new c- clip with my new cv axle, will I have to purchase a new c-clip.
dose anyone have how- to on this?
I'm more concerned about how the cv axle shaft comes out of trans and gose back in.
not concerned about the outer parts because when i do this I will be replacing lower control arms with prothane bushings and new balljoints, steering knuckle with new wheel bearings and new outer tie rods both sides.
Thanks for any info.
well.
1. Take wheel and tire off
2. undo the spindle nut. i beleive its a 22mm
3. take out the cotter pin for the ball joint and then remove the nut
4. use a balljoint seperator or a pickle fork and seperate the balljoint from the steering nuckle
5. undo the A-Arm Bolts and remove A-arm (only need to do this because your replacing the A-Arm bushings)
6. next slide the CV shaft out of the steering nuckle
7. then proceed to take a pry bar with a towel wrapped around it (just so you dont mark up your trans) and pry till the axle pops out of the transmision
a couple things i reccomend when you do the axle is 1. replace the oil seals on the output shafts 2. replace bothe of the axles since you already have it aapart and if you have to take it apart again its not gonna be fun cause the A-Arm bushings are so stiff its hard to get the nuckle and balljoint to seperate. Also when putting it all back together i recommend you put the balljoint shaft through the nuckle before you put the A-Arm back in its spot because there hard to move around for reasons above.
Hopefully this helps and have a fun time.
