I did a search on here and found a post that its 28% shorter, thats not helping me much, I'm really needing to know how much shorter it is in inches. 2"? 3"? Does anyone know?
Tell me something, why would people pay 150$ just to get a short shifter? They don't. The B&M is desing to give a shoter throw, not a short shaft. the lenght of the shaft as nothing to do on how long the throw is.

well that is true, cutting off the shaft has nothing to do with the throw, but it theory cutting the shaft does change the actual distance needed to move the shifter knob in order to shift. just try to think of it as arc lengths. something farther from the center point is going to have a longer arc length (distance needed to move shifter) than something closer to the center point. but the difference in lengths needed to shift inst going to compare to the effect of a shorter throw.
Greg Zimmerman.... put down the hacksaw and drop down the money for a real short throw shifter, its worth it.
ebay short shifters are just as good as the b&m. and half the price. my short shifter has been on almost a year now and no problems whats so ever.
the shifter itself is the same lenth, the big metal ball looking part towards the bottom of the shaft, thats the pivot point. if you move the ball further up the shaft the shaft itself sits lower down but the big thing is having more shaft below the ball, the more shaft below the ball means it take less movement up top to pivot the bottom.
for exampe..
stock - bottom--> o---0-------------o <--- Top
short - bottom--> o-------0---------o <--- Top
the big 0 is the pivot point. make sence how move the pivot up means less work to move the bottom just as far?
Ok, none of this answers my question. I HAVE this shifter, I just want to know precisely how much chorter it is than stock. I'm having a boot made and I need to know. And before anyone says it, I've had this shifter 2 years and I no longer have the stock one to compare to.
First I doubt many people around here are anal enough to bust out the measuring tape on their two shifters. Second, if that was your question, why didn't you just say so in the first post?

Can you read?....... THE SHIFTER IS NOT SHORTER.
Its a short THROW shifter
to tell ya the truth i *think* its shorter... i dont have one to compare but after lookin at my buddies stock shifter i think its shorter

Actually, it IS shorter, I remember rather distinctly when I compared the stock to the B&M when I first did the swap, I just don't recall exactly how MUCH shorter.

Unless I am mistaken, I DID ask how much shorter than stock it was.

Maybe my phrasing needs help. Sorry folks, not trying to flame, just asking what I thought was a rather simple question.

And in another answer to this particular post, if what you say is true, then what is the difference between stock and B&M, in inches, the distance from the pivot ball to the reverse lockout collar, in particular, the part of the collar where the boot snaps around? Thanks to ANYONE who knows.
The image is blury but check this :
I measured mine ~1 1/4 inches. hard to measure with it out of the center console.
Yea, I finally just measured my sisters stock shifter and mine and got that same difference. Have had my boots installed for a couple of weeks now. lol
wtf the balls for the pivot points on both look like their in the exact same place.
ohh well, it doesnt matter, it works and i know it does. i had my stock shifter cut down 2 inches in my 97 z and then drove an 02 z with the b&m, night and day difference. wow.
What was the difference that you noticed? I dont really see short shifters as being better than cuttin off a few inches. And in the pix as you can see the pivot ball is in the same spot and the part above the ball is shorter. I know short shifter are engineered so it doesnt feel funny. I think the difference you felt was just that the b&M is well engineered (why it cost so much) and it feels better. But I'm the throw lenght is the same. I've felt a short shifter and a hacked shifter in a civic b4 and the throws are the same. The short shifter just felt better and looked nicer....my .02
supposedly, what darkstars said is true in some cases. the B&M just doesn't appear to be one of them from those pics. I chopped mine 1-1/4" (appx.) and it feels a lot sharper than before. after seeing those pics, i'm sure i won't go and spend $150 on one.

well, idk if it was the difference between the getrag an izuzu or maybe the shifter assembly itself is different i just dont know. but the 02 car felt so much tighter and cleaner. the cut stock shifter on my 97 felt much better than stock, but still had a sloppy feel.
lol. Dude your comparing the isuzu(crap) to the getrag which is the most celebrated manufacture of trannies by anyone who owns a street driven manual Gm car. I just brought a 2001 z24 5speed and I had my 99z rebuilt in January and the 2001 has 160K on it. The 2001 feels way tighter and shifts way smoother than my freshly rebuilt isuzu....and the gearing is much better b.t.w i can actually pass people in 5th gear its so sweet.....Ohh yeah well incase you didnt know 96-99 cavies that are stick came with the isuzu and 00-02 came w/ the getrag and 03+ came also w/ a getrag but the bellhousing is different due the GM puting the ecotec in those cars. So the 00-02 is a much needed upgrade for anyone w/ an isuzu and is fairly easy to swap in once u get that one mount welded.

im not talking about how the tranny shifts, im talking about how the SHIFTER feels. it has nothing to do with the tranny. i realize the getrag is a better tranny. but the SHIFTER is what im talking about.
The I@!#$zu shifter assembly is garbage as well, You need to try a stock 2k+ vs a B/M 2k
.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
lol exactly the whole assembly sux dude.
I'll make it simple.
00-05 = 28% on the throw & 2.25 inches on the shaft.
95-99 = 24-29% on the throw pending which year you have & no clue on the shaft.
Enjoy.
