Hey guys I have a Question. I have a 95 Sunfire GT with a 5spd tranny its the 2.3 quad 4 motor. And i bought a 96 Grand Am 5spd tranny the 2.4 motor and put it in....everything bolted up just fine with no problems! Now the car acts like it is neutral when in gear? you can put it into any gear and it wont stall?? what should I look for? what could it be?
are your shift cables hooked up? maybe you needto bleedyour clutch?
shift cables are on.....clutch is New...and I already bled the clutch but i'll try again....any other suggestions?
Clutch is on the wrong way.

No the clutch is fine.....it worked on the old tranny that lost reverse... and i never repulled it off!
Well when you instal the 2.3 tranny in the 2.4 you have to extend the shift linkage. Im not sure if this is it but maybe the linkage is binding because its too long. Im just putting this out there. I know anything helps when your troubleshooting.
its all good guys I got it........somehow....im not sure how....but i broke an axle when i pulled it out.....bingo...there was my problem.....its all fixed thanks guys!

the '95 2.3 trans is the EXACT SAME as the 2.4 96-99 trans........ The older NON-J-Body NVG 2.3 trans is the one that needs mods to work.
Anyway, glad you figured it out.
