2.2L OHV, I have a tube attached to the indicated nipple that runs up toward my driver side strut mount, but it just kind of sits there. I just want to know if it is supposed to be connected to something. Please help, I want to get this resolved before I go back to school Tuesday. Thanks in advance.
Well I can't see the pic but my guess is that if it is coming from your trans and it is a rubber hose then it is most likely the breather hose. Does not get attached to anything.
Hopefully someone with more experiance can answear your question because I have no idea what that is. But it looks like a trans tube for your trans fluid. They usually run towards the radiator.
I thought manual transmissions don't have trans fluid, just clutch fluid. The clutch reservoir is definitely attached. Sorry, I should've mentioned that it is a manual trans, but I figured the picture would say for itself what it is.
Yeah, that picture isn't my trans, I couldn't get a good picture of mine so I searched for one. Like I said, there is a rubber tube that runs from that nipple under the air box and comes out near the clutch reservoir and the drivers side strut mount. I just noticed it and it's bugging me. The tube curves into a ? shape at the end, sticking up almost out of the engine bay.
The previous owner had a new transmission installed, so it is quite possible that something is messed up or in the wrong place. I haven't felt any problems, I just noticed the tube sticking out.

It is a breather for the trans.

That hose attaches to a vac. line, does it not?
I could have swore to god that it does. Mine's not hooked up either though.
Mine has a hard plastic line, up near the strut mount. There is a soft vacuum line from the nipple in your pic to the hard line. Yes, Vacuum.
It is only a breather. It goes up near the strut mount and vents there.
It is not connected to anything.
And yes, a manual trans takes tranny fluid!!!!! The clutch fluid is for the clutch, tranny fluid is for the tranny. Try running a manual trans without fluid....It won't last long. The parts inside still move and need to be lubricated just like an automatic trans.
