Hmm, wondering if anyone has insight on this . . .
I come home, I back into my driveway. Out of no where my idle starts fuzzling between 1000-400rpms, the clutch stays half way to the floor, and my shifter locks into reverse. I shut off the car, check my fluid, check connections, etc and everything looks fine. I get the shifter back into neutral,I pull the clutch up by hand and then it works fine when the car is off. I turn it on, things look normal, I move it out of the driveway, down the street a tad and back and things are fine. I'm sitting in the driveway with it in 1st, on the clutch and the problem happens again. The idle starts staggering, the shifter locks again, the clutch stays half to the floor only this time the car dies.
Any idea of what this could be?? I know the 03-05 Cavalier's have issues with Master Cylinders, but would that effect the idle and lock the shifter in place?? The car wasn't throwing an engine light, nothing smelled like it was burning, etc. I thought it was the clutch at first (being that this is my first 5-speed & it hasn't been replaced yet), but again, would that effect the shifter and idle? The car is just at 15,900 miles so its still under warranty, but this is the first issue the car has had since I bought it. Any ideas what causes this?
Sounds like you need to call an exorcist man.
. . . o_O?
Wish it was that easy to fix the car, lol. Its at the dealer being fixed cause of whatever is wrong with it.
Sounds like master cylinder, actuating cylinder or throw-out. Let us know what they find.
Yup, exactly what it was Lees. The Master Cylinder & Actuating Cylinder had to be replaced. Funny stuff, repaired in 1-day via warranty, and now my cars clutch grabs more, lol.

My clutch has been a "grabber" since day one. I've gotten used to it, but most people have trouble driving my car because the clutch grabs kinda quick. It takes a little more than the usual degree of finesse to smoothly shift gears in my car.
