My brother is wondering about swapping the busted 5 speed tranny in his 98 Z24 to the 4 speed automatic. The 4 speeds are a lot easier to find and are relatively cheap, around 400-500 bucks. What would have to be changed to fit the auto tranny in his car? Would he be able to get the traction control to work? Is it worth doing? I admit, I like my 5 speed but something it would be nice to have an automatic again..
i have all my auto stuff i removed today cuz im swappin to 5-speed so if there is anything you need i have it all, mount, axles ( need new boot on them), shifter assembly/cables, tranny, torque converter, brake/gas pedal assembly, id be willing to trade for some of the manual stuff off the car like the 5-speed axles, mounts both front and rear and the ones youd have to cut off for me to weld to my car, and clutch master cylinder, and pcm
pm if interested, but your auto swap is do able and would be fairly easy any more questions on this ask away
Also need a PCM since the trans. is electronically controlled.
But, I got a 5spd trans. for 300 shipped to me. So why spend all the time on the swap?
and the wiring in the engine bay... since the big trans plug isn't there on the manual cars...
it's do-able... and yes, if done properly, you'd have the traction control working fine....
