I am going to be changing my transmission fluid in my 2002 Cavailer, with the 4-speed auto. While searching for the amount of fluid to use I came up with numbers from 2qts up to 9.5qts. I want to order some royal purple and I want to get a good idea of how much to get.
Thanks for any help

According to the FSM, 6.9 quarts for normal fluid and filter change (bottom pan removal).
When we dropped the pan and changed the filter and fluid on my 96 4 speed it took 10 quarts to fill it.

its in the FAQ and everywhere else.. pan drop =7.4quarts and i believe whole flush takes like 12
How about this, drain tranny fluid, replace filter, put in like 5 quarts, start the motor, raise the car on a lift, pull the check plug on the side of the tranny, and keep on dumping in tranny fluid until fluid comes out of that hole, and that is how much fluid you need.

Very true, and that is what we did and it was 10 quarts. Also per a Gm tech he said pan drop is anywhere from 7-10 quarts, and flush was 13-16 quarts.

why doesnt someone make this weekly question a sticky???
especially when everyone starts spitting out numbers of quarts when its going to be different every time. 3 quarts is a pretty big variable when it comes to a transmission. its a difference that can ruin the transmission.
i work at jiffy lube.
i have an ecotec.
i know this one.
6.9 in the pan
9.5 in the whole thing. which you'll need something like a t-tec machine to replace while the motor is running in park.
but its a sealed tranny so jiffy lube wont service it(unless u work there
)
i just did this 2 days ago.
and btw i woulda used royal purple if the penzoil wasnt free
good choice
