Home Made Oil Drain for the 4T40E

would it be stupid to tap the oil pan on the tranny and plug it just so that if i want to drain the tranny oil I can easily without having to remove the tranny oil pan and replace the gasket everytime?

it might be a horrible idea, i have no clue... i was just wondering..

thanks!

As I remember, the pan isn't very thick so you'll have to use a small and short screw so you don't hit the filter.

This would make draining the fluid less messy, but you'd still have to drop the pan to change the filter and to remove the sludge from the pan.

Get it flushed.....small particles are worst thing for an automatic. Flush it, get all of the particles out of the small fluid passages, why would you drain tranny fluid without replacing a filter atleast anyway? By the time auto tranny fluid gets burnt/go bad, it would need a new filter anyway.

You don't need to replace the gasket on the pan... it's reuseable, unless you've somehow damaged it. The filter you SHOULD replace..

Bolt-on-Horsepower on eBay sells a drain plug that you can easily install in your pan. Check it out by clicking here.

proof of concept

id rather build it myself..... for the cost of the 50 cent fitting that i would need from home depot... lol, but thanks for the info!! That one looks like it would stick up in the tranny above the pan a lot, im sure it clears but it does not look like it will effectively drain all of the oil sitting on the pan

i might just take it to a tranny shop and have them change it and the filter and flush it like lenko said.... Thanks guys!!
