Someone was telling me that I need to drop the transmission to change this, is that really true? I have also been told I may be able to just drop the pan.
Anyone here ever done one?

You need to get to the valve body, which you can access from the side cover... so no, you don't have to drop the transmission.... but you do need to get access to the panel thru the fender well.

This here, is that specifically for a J-body? Will it be pretty much the same.
I'm not understanding why it's saying the pan on the side though, my tranni pan is on the bottom?
there is a second pan on the side its a big square that you can see from the side, and yes that is a jbody, its a 2nd gen but its pretty much the same
Ok, so will I need to get tranni fluid after doing this? It won't drain the tranni fluid will it? When I go to get the part, what do I need to tell them for the new gasket, or should I just use some black silicone?
Sorry for all of the questions, but I just want to get this done right. The soleniod is around what, $50?
Once I get into the valve body, what happens from there, special linkages that hold it, wires?
