4T40E Operating Temp & Time to reach it
Wednesday, August 09, 2006 8:53 AM
How long does it usually take to reach your tranny's operating temp? I just installed it last night, and driving to my friends house in the morning, it reached 110 and he lives about 10 miles away, about 10-15 minutes of driving...

just wondering...

EDIT: 110 degrees!!! sorry ... i typed 160 before

same here

I just installed it yesterday... i have a b&m one... it had a 1/8npt sender that i plugged into the spot under the return hose on the tranny...

it starts reading at 100 degrees, so for most of the trip to his house it was not reading anything... thats why i was wondering if that was normal!!! Thanks!

Here's the spot where you can hook up your tranny temp gauge.. The gauge came with everything needed to hook it up to your tranny. The sender screw plugged right into my tranny.

the auto trans should be about the same or alittle lower than the engine temp (around 170-190) is good, anything higher/lower you can do damage to it.

in the winter it takes about 20-30 minutes of driving before it moves enough to see it on the gauge

during the summer in the morning it takes about 10 minutes to get to 180 , and after work its at 200 in a few minutes

highest ive seen is about 230 , in 115 degree temps

A lot of this heat comes from being bolted to the engine, yes?

Quick question, why would my tranny temps be reaching 200+? I finally got my car up and running lastnight and after about 10mins of driving it reaches that high, so high it flips back around ot the other side like its starting over lol.. Could it be Im low on tranny fluid?
I do have the Yank in there.
