I have a 99 Z24, and could only find 2 sources for a reman isuzu 5 speed tranny: Dealer = $2000, Autozone = $1000. Neither include labor of course. This is just the tranny, no mounts, linkages, clutch components, etc.

Im wanting to do the same swap- auto to stick, but I have a 1st gen with a 92+ 2.0. I had thought about trying to find someone to just put more stall speed in my t/q, but the more I think about it, a good 4 or 5 speed should give me a little better gearing on the low end.

Anyone have any suggestions on the best tranny to find for the swap? And any input on how hard it is and what all I will need for the swap would be appreciated.

I plan on living forever... so far so good

i can get a 99 z24, sunfire gt, etc. manual tranny excellent conidtion for like $550-$700 man, or get a complete auto to manual swap for aprox $1,300 for the 96-99 models, the older models would be alot cheaper than that as well. I rather not disucss here so if interested pm or email me. thanks

I pieced my swap together.... bought the trans itself from a buddy for $500... the clutch was another $300... master cylinder, pedals, shifter assembly, cables, etc was another $200 or so... grind out the auto trans mount and weld in new mounts for the 5-speed... a buddy helped me... $50? I think I gave him... plus the mount brackets... $100 or so... engine bay wiring, clutch switches, etc... don't remember.

I did some upgrades too... B&M short throw shifter $150, Team GREEN LSD insert $200, install of the LSD $500, Prothane poly trans mount bushings $50...

It takes some time... and cost adds up quick.

when i did my swap i waited a month or two and found a wrecked 5spd for sale about an hour from me and only paid like $250.00 for the whole car, so with that i had everything i needed except a new clutch and some other misc parts that i changed while i had it tore apart....timing chain couple of gaskets...that kind of stuff

if i where you i would hold out a little while....a wrecked 5spd will come up for sale and you could save yourself some money and headaches.....

Is there a template on the firewall for where the clutch pedal goes? How does one know where to drill the holes?

you need to look at a car that has a 5 speed in it then measure twice and cut once.....i made that mistake and had to use a file for like 15min and it sucked.........

I gotcha, not a problem since my everyday car is 5 speed, I just thought that perhaps the firewall had a template or something for the holes.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the sight and new to the game, I've been into car audio forever and now i want to take it to the next step. I have a 1997 Cavalier 2.2L Coupe automatic, and I want to make it a manual. I have been reading what I can, and have been grasping most of it. My question is, is there any one out there who has a book or some type of instruction manual on how to do this? I hope I'm asking the right questions and the right people. Thank you for you time.
