Clutch Help!
Friday, July 07, 2006 2:28 PM
Hey guys, I just put my Cavalier in the shop the other day to have a new clutch put in it. The mechanic is now trying to tell me he was having trouble bleeding the clutch and then foud out that on my Cavy when you change the clutch you have to change the HYDRAULIC ASSEMBLY aslo.

My cavy is a 1998 2200 5-speed coupe. Is this true? And if so about how long does it take to do? (And not the rushed time please) Thanks guys!

Does anybody have any info on this, please! I have to pick my car up real soon and I had a funny feeling I might be getting ripped-off.

I'm not sure what your Cavy is, or what he is talking about when he says "hydraulic assembly." I'm not sure about the older Cavys, but if you have a 3rd Gen, and If he is referring to the hydraulic slave cylinder, it is good practice to replace it since it is inside the transmission, and they are prone to leak. When they leak, if you don't make sure the tiny fluid reservoir is always full they suck in air. Also, the throwout bearing is attached to the slave, which should also be changed when you do a new clutch.

Hope this helps.
