I just made a post in the other converter thread about it. There was someone I think LAFNGAS that might have it. He has a 2800 stall listed. I guess it's him. I want to get a converter for my car.

so LAFNGAS has it and it worked fine? do you plan on getting that ebay one? can someone post a link to a "good one" that would work and is trustable?

Jegs has torque convertors, get a quality one before you trust ebay.

That is a turbo 350 converter from a 1970 GM fullsize car. Go ahead and order it if you want but it won't fit. Believe me. He stole part of his wording from my ad. I tried to contact him to see what was up with the bogus auction and got no response.

They do have many torque convertors for 03+ transmissions. Go to JEGS and get the troque convertor. Other wise look around, there are plenty of companies out there that make the converters for the tranny.
David if that first line is for me then you need to look at everything on that page, if not, then that guy needs to read the whole thing on that converter.

Aside from the Yanks, which have been discontinued (David S. The Camaro Guy has the remaining few new ones left), I haven't seen any major company that make a performance TC for the autos in J-Bodies. You can get them custom made from most High Performance/Race TC builders. These will generally run from $200 and up and typically, you'll get what you pay for.

MadJack, check out Jegs. They have some frm Hughs performance and so forth, also they have some frm B&M as well.

Yes they do, but not for the J's, unless I've missed something the last few hundred times.

They are for the 4L transmissions, not the 4T. So if you have the 4L go to Jegs, transmission, torque convertors and search them all. I just seen them in there for the 4L.

4L, for longitudinally mounted, as in RWD. 4T for transverse mount, as in FWD. The J-bodies come with the 3T40/TH125C(three speed) or the 4T40E(four speed).

As I stated above, no one is manufacturing them, that I know of (unless you want a mass produced stock rebuild), but you can still get one custom built. See this thread for what stock converters are available.

David S, The Camaro Guy can tell you if Yank Conveters can still do custom TCs. I've talked to TCS before, they said they can do anything from a quality rebuild to a full custom TC, it all depends on your needs and how much you want to pay.

I see what you were talking about. I guess I am just going to have to remove mine and send it to someone and have it reworked to what I want it to be. Or better yet get one from the junkyard and send it in.

Yank can still make a high stall 245mm converter for GM FWD but it will not be the same unit as before. There are only 20 left of the orginal 1000 lot built for SLP about 5 years ago. Sales actually started out fairly strong back then. Pontiac Enthusiast did an article when the converter came out. GM Powertrain actually ordered a couple of converters to test on their converter dyno. They made the mistake of starting the test run at op temp (210 F) and the dyno couldn't even finish the test before the temp sensor shut the machine down. So, they had to use room temp oil to get all of the test data. Interesting story.

Most of the FWD converter market dropped off a couple years ago. Anyways, the lot was equipped with special parts. The turbine and pump both were furance brazed. Stock FWD converters did not come furance brazed. Very few high HP APP converters had just the pump brazed but not the turbine. The fins were slightly thicker than GM specs for less flex. (Extensions were not welded to the fins. I mean that the pump and turbine were built ground up with thicker fins. The shells were also thicker.) In addition, the fins were designed from ground up for that stall. They are not bend by hand to raise the stall speed as you would have to do if you used factory parts. That is why the orginal retail was in the 600 dollar range. You were getting a converter with a custom order pump and turbine whereas every other rebuilder was using modified stock parts. The great thing is that they are not GM production order pumps/turbines. You can't just go find car X and pull the trans or go to a dealer and order a converter with the same parts in it.

Now, you can still get other people to do something similar. But, it is all about the money.

Here is an example of the fin extensions most aftermarket companies use:
You can bend blades and reenforce with extensions but it is not a flawless fix...

Just looking at that picture, I see some welding slag on one fin and extension, a busted fin extension and uneven fin extensions! I bet that sucker had some bad "vibes"!

On a side note, I've been pleasantly supprised, the hottest my tranny fluid has gotten has only been about 180*, in the Florida summer in stop and go traffic. Even when I went to the track the last time, where I made 11 runs, where many of which were only a couple of minutes apart, the temps never got over about 165*. I had more problems with heat soak in the motor in the warm, muggy night.

Yes, it's cheap insurance you won't burn up your new TC.

Here is one of my personal favorites. Found that one years ago and it still makes me laugh!

The picture is a little distorted from uploading to the web but you can still see what is wrong. Its a good idea in theory and cheap if you are in a crunch but it makes things a little hot inside!
