Well, im pretty sure its from my diff...
So let me tell you what happened... I rotated my tires one day, drove down the street and all the sudden the car kinda bucked for a split second, nothing bad enough to raise concern and it seemed ok... But as i pulled out of my neighborhood i heard this terrible rumble sound (kinda like when your a kid and you put the baseball card in the spokes of your bycicle tire) Except much louder.
It does it at all times when im coasting, in gear or out doesnt matter... But it completely goes away when i got it under a load. Im thinking the diff.... Either way ive driven over 1,000 miles with it making this noise and nothings gotten worse... still shifts smooth as silk and the diff does work properly.
Keep in mine i have the stage 3 clutch with the Supercharger so im sure ive been harder on my trans than most, but has anyone else had any probs with their diffs?

Also, occasionally when i powershift into second (yea, i like to keep my foot on the gas... Gotten fast enough to keep from hitting the rev limiter) Sometimes it will grind into second... This is only under EXTREME driving conditions and any other time it is perfect. Im kind of wondering if im at fault for this one though because ive gotten so used to the 2inch throw of the stage 3 clutch that im slamming the gear before the clutch is completely in? I dunno, just looking for other opinions.

Jack the front end up, leave the car in gear, see if you can freely spin the tires. The other tire should spin freely in the opposite direction of the tire you spin. If it isn't smooth, then there is a good chance it is your diff. While driving in a straight line, your diff is doing very little. It really only gets a good workout in turns or burnouts.
Yea i tried that when it started... everything seemed normal to me. I might just order the quaif LSD along with everything else when i sell the Audi.

That probably wont do it. If it IS in fact the diff. then the teeth are barely slipping (for now). When my buddy's Sunfire was doing this, it would do it every once in a while. It would just go CLUNK, and you could also notice a kick in the steering. After a while it was when the clunk happened, then the kick would happen all the time. It starts to make the car hard to drive.
Due to how an open diff works. It should probably also get worse when you have the wheels turned. His car got to the point right before we fixed it, that in a left turn, we would almost have to push the car in order to get it to move.
It sounds like you also give the trans. a lot of abuse. Burnouts are especially hard on it.
One thing you could do is pull the VSS out of the tranny. It's magnetic. When my friends trans went bad the VSS was so gunked up, that he'd loose the speedo once in a while. When I pulled it out, it actually had so much collected on it (including some fairly good sized metal chunks) that it scraped off on the outside of the hole, all the way around See how much junk is collected on yours, and what kinda chunks there are on there.
my car is doing the exact same thing right now! everyone ive talked to has told me it's a bearing going out. ( friends, co workers, a few tranny shops) ill let ya know when i tear it down today.
hondas are like tampons...
every p***y needs one
YEa i dunno what im gunna go... I dont want to have the car down in my garage for more than a weekend... (i installed the clutch in a day so i figure a weekend to pull the trans, and rebuild it.)
Im wondering if i should just go ahead and buy a new (used) trans on ebay, throw a phantom grip in there while its out, and just swap trannys, then pull mine apart and check the damage... That way maybe ill get lucky and not have much damage... Or the trans will be fried. I wish the diff was in a seperate case like a RWD, but with it beeing a transaxle im scuurrreed

The diff is in the same case, but once you split it open you can remove just the diff itself, and replace only the diff.
When I tore down my old trans, the diff was tore up pretty good. But the rest of the gearing was just fine. I simply changed trannys, it was a lot faster/easier that way. Plus I got one for 300 shipped. Which wasnt bad compared to what everyone wanted for trannys with an acceptable mileage on them.
Just go easy on the new one, you dont need to powershift all the time. You'll end up breaking something else, even with the PG in there.
Yea i try not to powershift too much... Only when i feel the car next to me really might beat me. Most of the time i granny shift if im just cruising, or even when im playing around but not actually racing anyone but myself.
