i know there is lots of posts but in each post there is 4 different answers...
i just did a tranny service 2001 sunfire GT 4 speed auto and i put 6 liters of tranny fluid in. now i started it and went through gears but the car is also just jacked up on stands at the front causing the car to be on a slant. when i checked the fluid level plug fluid did start to come out. but putting less than 6 liters doesnt seem right because all the other replys in other posts were saying it needs more than that.
i took it for a drive and everything seemed fine and shifted good.....
so does anyone have the for sure 100% GM approved proper ammount?
7-8 qts for a filter change
9.5-10 for a full change
Dexron 3 or equivalent

There is no perfect amount that will always apply.
Capacity amounts are GUIDELINES, meaning a good place to start.
A dipstick, or a check bolt in this case, is the ONLY way to verify whether or not your fluid level is correct.
And if your car isn't level (put jackstands under the rear, too) then you're wasting your time to check the level anyways.
The car MUST be level to get an accurate reading.
9 - 9.5 quarts is typical for a 4t40e transaxle after a pan drop and filter change.
Could be slightly more, could be slightly less. You must follow the fluid level check procedure to know for sure.
And just because you "took it for a drive and everything seemed fine and shifted good" doesn't mean you have the level correct.
Many a burnt-up transmissions have "shifted good" for awhile, until the lack of fluid causes them to overheat and self-destruct.
