Hey guys I was driving home from work tonight and I went to put it in first and it wouldn't go in at all. Then i tried 2nd and it was hard too, but it went in and then i went to first and it still wouldnt go in. So then I tried all gears and it went into reverse and finally to first. I drove for about 25 minutes and it never happend again untill I went out later only this time I couldn't go into 1,3,5 for like 2 minutes of me trying to get it in first.....I bought some trans fluid and pan on draining the current fluid out, and putting the new stuff in..
I jsut changed the fluid in feb with moble one. I'm kinda stumped as this trans only has 20-25k on it. Are the cables in need of adjustment? I have an 01 2200 5spd.
Thanks for any help.
Jeff
Is it locking you out of the gears, or does it feel like the shifter just spins around in the pattern real freely?
Its locking me out of gears but after trying to shift into all the gears for a little while it will go in. Then if will be fine for a while and it will do it again at random.
Well i just drain the trans and the fluid level is perfect, I wasn't low on trans fluid. My guess now is cable adjustment or the trans is simpily going. If it is the trans I will be on my 3rd getrag.... oh well still love the cavi....anybody else have any insite on this problem?
I'm guessing that you either have a bad shift cable, or you have the shift linkage on top of the tranny is bad. Maybe you have the one from the old tranny available.
Thanks for the input SHOoff. Now my next question is how to properly adjust the shiftercables on an 01 getrag car.. SpeedracerZ can you hear me...
year of car I may be able to help
The cables shouldn't need adjusted. You may want to get under the hood and shift your car through all the gears directly on the transmission and see how it works out for you that way. See if it's still locking up. Also you need to watch for anything being in the way, binding up or blocking you from shifting. No sense in spending all that money for new cables if it's something that can be fixed with a zip tie or something.
I know what you mean shooff. The funny thing though is the problem comes up at random. Nothing is blocking or in the way of the shifter cables under the hood. All the cables are connected properly,, I just got hiome and everything has been fine for the past day and a half.
