A friend of mine might buy a 98 z24 5spd but it needs a tranny now he has a 95 5spd cavy and he was wondering if the tranny would be a direct swap???

not at all. If it's a 95 Z, yes it can be done. If it's a 2.2, no it can't

SO there is no way this would work?
if they are the same motor, yes
if not, no
the bell housings are different on 2.2 & 2.3/2.4 engines!
so if the other cavalier is a 2.3/2.4 then it would be a direct swap,
if the other cavalier is a 2.2, then no go on the swap and find a new tranny
