ok i am doing a motor swop and i need to get a tranny thats conpatable with the ecotec so i found out i jhave to choose from 4t40e or 4t45e so whats the diff? is one just a auto and the other a manual?
[quote=97cavie24ls(JDM&00s/c sedans™)]45 is the stronger 1 susposedly , but when GM switch to it no has really determined
I've done some looking, and it seems like that's the case, the 45 is newer and better.
Usually when GM makes upgrades like this it is things like shot peened shafts. Hardened steel internals and larger bearings.
Can't remember what the 4T45E is but just expect slightly better internals.

Yea, ummmm. I used to have a J-body...
ok thanks all now all i have to do is find a 4t45e tranny for a decent price
I used to think the 4t45e was found in v6 N-Body's but after reading the thread, seems im wrong. good info.
Okay, I am just being lazy, just do not feel like looking right now since I am at work and all. I have an '05 Cav with the 2.2L ecotec, which tranny do I have? Mine is an automatic LS base sedan.
4T40E was used in the J-body cars, the 4T45E was not. You won't find a 4T45E with a case that will work with a J-body motor.
