Shift unit on top of MK7

Anyone know if you can replace the shift unit that mounts on top of the MK7? If you're not sure what I'm talking about, it's the piece that bolts to the top of the tranny that the shifter cables attach to. Mine is worn out, and my tranny is fine. It's a simple bolt on replacement, so I'm hoping I can just buy the part.

You can replace that part, but i'm not sure if you can buy only that one piece from the dealer, I'd go to their parts depertment, and have them look it up, along with a cost. You may also be able to get the part from a junkyard if they allow you to part the transmission like that. You just take those 4 bolts that hold the piece down off, and it pops right up. Then use some sealent/silicon, and put the new one on there.

Yeah, I removed mine while I'm working on the car (yes, it's taped over ), but I noticed that the channel that the arm rides in is bend way out of whack. The tranny is plenty strong, so I don't want to go replacing the whole thing.

Thanks for the help

New? or very tight used? Let me know. PM me about it. Thanks!

Wht do you mean it's bent out of shape? when the tranny is in gauge, then there's not going to be a perfect shape, it will be like a zig zag.

It's not bent. The rod that moves up and down has a channel around it that the activating lever rides in. Mine is all worn so that the arm is loose inside the channel. The strange thing is that it's very worn in one spot, and the arm will move 1/4" without engaging the rod. If this doesn't make sense to you, I'll take a picture this weekend and upload it.

I think i know what you mean, the shifter arm part that slids is out of shape.

Either way, did GM have a replacement for that one part? or have the junk yards got anything?

I actually haven't worked on this since my last post. Lots of wiring going on in the engine bay right now. From talking to the dealer on the phone, it sounds like the arm itself can be replaced, but I don't see how to get it out. I'll have to look at it again when I have a minute. If any parts of it can be replaced, I'm sure the whole unit can.
