Ok is there such a thing as a shorter shifter for an auto? I think the stock automatic shift sticks are way to long and ugly. I would like to shorten it up a bit. I was thinking would it be possible to shorten it myself? Maybe cut some off and put an after market knob on? Any ideas or people that have done this?

Yes, it has been done before and covered very thoroughly. If you do a quick search you should be able to find it.
Quick and dirty: take off the knob with the c clip on the front, shorten the metal rod, shorten the yellow stick part inside by the same amount, cut the grooves in the sides of the metal rod, put the knob back on.
Blown.

Ok after you left me the post to use the search button I tried every possible combo and looked through all the forums for info on how to do it right. I coult not find anything can anybody direct me to the proper way of cutting it? If there are so many topics on it already...

as said above. remove stock knob via clip in front, cut about an inch off metal being carefull not to cut straight through(you'll cut the yellow doomahickey if you do) then trim the yellow doomahickey one inch also and install a new aftermarket knob. if you wanna get really fancy, get a 5spd console from a 00+ and put that in. the leather boot will make your car look just like a 5spd. did that to my 95 and everyone thinks its a 5spd. was going to do it to my 99 but it has the PRND321 indicator on it instead of on the dash like my 95 and my wife sometimes drives my vert so i'll just shorten the shifter and leave the rest alone.
