Ok check this out, i installed my stage 2 and flywheel from spec this fall that passed. To my opion this was the best upgrade I could of bought and installed ...
Then last thurs i was just cruising around at 60-70km, a car was turning in front..so i downed from 4th to 3rd..passed the car from the next lane, changed back to my lane and shifted back into 4th ..SNAP!!...GRIND!!!
The clutch pulls to the floor, then returns..then there's no output under load, then there is with the pedal pressed 1/2...then it just grinds..now in my mind i'm like " WTF JUST/IS HAPPENING!!"
Ne-waz i managed to drive it home..it was weird cause i could accelerate 3/4th like usual but only with load on the clutch pedal..when i released the clutch it would just grind like a mother@!#$er!! ..followed by flames..Yes!! Flames from the bottom of the bellhousing. ..but at all times in gear/neutral/pedal pressed/ not pressed it would have like a clanging sound.
Well I ain't no idiot..so i took the metro to work on friday(OMG..THE HOTTIES!! ..haha)
Ne-waz I dropped my trans yesturday out of the car...not bad, took me 3hours..and this is what i discovered:
So I contacted Gravana..but it's the weekend, so i don't expect a response till mon-tues..they've always been good with me so i ain't worried.
But on that topic, does anyone know the warranty on Spec parts..a.k.a my flywheel and clutch being covered??
I don't know the answer to your question on warranty... sorry.
But I do know, there's a growing list of people who have done the exact same thing to the lightened flywheels. Seems to me, they are garbage. Guess I won't be going that route.

You mean this has happened to other ppl, with a Spec flywheel or with also another manufacture??
Eitherway, it's insane....there wasn't even any notice that the flywheel was tearing apart ..a.k.a noises/vibrations. It just broke at the snap of a finger
It has happened before, I don't remember to whom... but I know you're not the first I've read of this happening.
And it's happened with both Fidanza and SPEC aluminum flywheels....
not sure on spec , but ive heard no warrenty on fidanza is 0 since its a race part
and i thought spec was using fidanza flywheels
and you got lucky the 1 guy that iknow this happened to before , had to buy a trans too , since it ate a big hole in the case
im about to order the spec flywheel and stage 2+ clutch... now im not so sure. How many people have had this problem vs how many people have had good experiences. Because i dont want to spend the extra 300 dollars for something thats gona break like that... thats serious...
and my guess is theres no warrantey since they expect you to beat on it since its a race part

Well it's lasted a total of 6 winter months(if that)...i havent even had a chance to beat on it yet..are snow pretty much just melted away.
Ne-waz..when i get home to check my email, i'll see what Gravana wrote back..if they haven't i'll call them and then update you all on the situation
thanks, because i would love to get one, because i plan to run it at the track a few times and i dont want it all blowin up on me while im beatin on it... i plan to boost and i dont want to see what that will do to it

i had mine for about 13k miles with no issues . we even re used my stock flywheel bolts with no loctite. it is still working flawlessly(knock on wood). i got 40k on my act clutch. (basically got the clutch upgrade, then 2 years later i swapped in a 2k motor and attached this flywheel to it.)
but ya, i seen this happened b4 and i heard of many good stories. i would be pissed if this went on with my cav.
i dunno.
I had the SPEC Stage 3 clutch and SPEC Flywheel on for 20K+ miles and no problems.
I never heard anything about the Fidanza flywheel but I know for sure that you are the 4-5 person to have problem ON THIS SITE. I would buy a POS like that. If they keep the aluminium base, it will fail all the time. If you want a lighter flywheel, lighten you stock flywheel and get it balanced.

I'd have to say that this is the 3rd or 4th flywheel that I've seen do this....... which sucks. I do have a Spec Flywheel in our drag car....... has over 20k miles on it........ also the one in my '02 Z........ and my brother is sporting a Fidenza Flywheel..... no problems yet.
let us know how they handle it.

flywheel for my pontiac sunfire. I was wondering what the waranty was on
these parts? Because i just saw a picture of someone with a cavalier having
the flywheel shear off of its mounting hub. And heard other stories of it happening before. Thank you"
Spec Said:
They have a full warranty. The flywheel that shears off is a Fidanza mad
unit that supposedly is fixed. We haven't seen any others since.

So then my spec flywheel is the "mad unit" of fidanza..thus mines under warranty ?? ... WOO-HOO!!
ne-waz my update ..
I called gravana today and talked with Chad(good service), but I have to call this David Norton dude from Spec ..same dude that replied to Jared's msg. This is actually good because this Norton guy seems to have heard of the problem before ..and see's it as a warranty issue..awesome news!!
Well..guess im callin Spec tommarow *cross's fingers*
when did you buy this ?
as i had bought my spec flywheel at least a year or 2 ago? maybe it is a problem with the newer flywheels?
damn i just thought about it, is that going to mean my fidanza isnt under waranty? since its not the "spec" one? i would have spent 20 more dollars and got the spec one if that was the case. they are like the same thing arnt they

didnt you talk to Bill @ isuzu performance awhile back about flywheels?
If you got your flywheel from Spec, wheither or not they got it from Fidenza, it should be covered by Spec.
If you got your flywheel from Fidenza, call them and and see what they can do for you.

I think warranty is only for 1 year anyway NOT lifetime!

I ordered it and installed in the fall of '05 ..so it isn't even close to a year old yet. I'm lucky if i have even 10,000km's on the spec flywheel and clutch
from what bill@isuzupeformance told me(thanks for reminding me) is that he was a pioneer for these flywheels and they were goofed up from the get go(he got like 50 of them). so he sent them back to spec.
then all of a sudden u see some popping up on e bay for dirt cheap as factory defects(but not disclosed to the customer). bill took a chance and bought one off e bay and sure as crap it was a bad one he had sent back. he told me the e bay seller was a good seller, but unknowledgable about the product he was selling.
basically he e mailed me privitely saying about that e bay guy, i was about to buy it off that e bay guy and glad i didnt. it feels good to have a nice guy out there like that( we wont get into dicussion about BILL any further).
so i bought it off karo and havent had a issue.
has anyone had any problems with the EcoTec flywheels?
thanks james
Ok, newest update...
Talked with Jeremy at Spec Clutch yesturday, there going to warranty my flywheel. But he has to contact Fidanza to send them one..so they can send it my way..i dunno, guess spec needs to get it first and slap there sticker on the thing..ne-waz all is good.
Apparently Spec still doesn't have a mok-up of there own yet..so the fidanzas are still being used...or a least thats what i understood.
I wrote him back asking if he knew when the spec version would be out...i should get a response on the matter tonite some time
well so far it sounds like things are going good
