My mechanic said that I can only buy a stock shifter assembly that was exactly made for the 2002 Z24 Cavalier and not another year. Is this true? I thought that years 2000+ for shifters was all the same?

i believe you will find that he's wrong. i think it all has to do with the tranny itself. Isuzu or getrag. one of our club guys has a shifter out of a 2001 in his 97 or 98 Sundfire because he now has the Getrag in it instead of the Isuzu. oh i forgot to mention there might be a dif between Getrag 2.2L OHV and 2.4 Getrag.
