I have a 2000 Z24 5spd and I'm in the process of building a turbo 2.4 but I'm wondering what are the limits of the tranny? I have the team green lsd and I plan to get the Driveline Shop axles and a strong clutch with and aluminum fw. But what elest can I do to strengthen the Getrag 5spd?
2000 Z24 5spd header & catback for now.
try a spec stage 2+ or stage 3, then go to a racing tranny shop, most can either hook you up or tell you where to go and the standard ecotec setup can take 280hp, check the gm performance build up guide for the cavalier/cobalt

so the factory ge-trag (2000+) can take approx 280 WHP? or BHP? what is the breaking point then?
HP Tuners | Garrett T3/T04B | 2.5" Charge Pipes | 2.5" Downpipe | 650 Injectors | HO Manifold | Addco front/rear | Motor Mounts | HKS SSQV | Spec stage 3 | AEM UEGO Wideband | Team Green LSD | FMIC | 2.3 cams | 2.3 oil pump swap | 280WHP | Now ECOTECED
It all depends on the driver...... 2 weak things I have seen in the Getrag...... the plastic/nylon tips on the shift forks (broke one @ 11k miles) and the Diff (while not as weak as the Isuzu, still not bullet proof)....... not to many people have busted shift forks on here..... that I know of anyway...... and just a few more have broke the diffs (I can think of QBE and now me, off the top of my head)
If you dont get mad wheel hop, or do huge one wheel burn outs (which both QBE and I have done in the past) you shouldnt have any problems with the Diff........

and if you replace the stock diff with a LSD from quaife america, it should help with power distrobution and performance as well, as for wheel hop a good suspension setup will easily fix that.
peace out
