after a long research, one more thing? HELP!
Saturday, February 18, 2006 12:37 PM
Hi,
I have a 98' sunfire 2.4L 5-speed (isuzu)

I'm trying to get a new tranny, one guy is offering me the isuzu and the getrac(the getrac is from a 2001) . but each one have different bolt pattern.

from the isuzu I take this number: UAW 61UAW 97113042
under that #'s was this one: 1704A86

from a tag atached to the gtrag I take this number: 1G2JB124917152795

How many bolts have the 2.4 tranny?
Do they use the same axle?
Do they use the same cables?

If I choose the getrac:
Do the bolt pattern of the tranny mounts are diferent from each tranny?
Do I have to swap the mounts too?
What parts do i need to buy for completing the swap?

If I choose the isuzu:
How do I know that the tranny is from a 2.4?

Any extra info will be very helpfull.
Thanks for your help and for your time too

the number you have off the GETRAG is the vin number for the car it came out of....

No clue what the number off the Isuzu is.....

The bell housings should have the same bolt pattern, between the getrag and isuzu..... it will look a bit different, but all the bolts will be in the same place.....

If you swap to the Getrag, you will need a new shifter, shift cables, trans mounts, and brackets for the mounts...... also new hydrolics for the clutch...

To tell if the Isuzu is for the 2.4...... look at where the starter 'bulge' is in the bell housing.... it should be in the front, up high..... a 2.2 has is up front and down low.....

oh yea.... the getrag you have listed is for a 2200.... not a 2.4 (8th digit of the VIN is a 4)

thanks, speedracerZ
I really apreciate your help...

Please help me with another thing:

1)reading about the starter, I could say that the isuzu 2.2 trans will not fit on a 2.4, right?
- If does fit, do they have the same gear ratio?

2)Is the getrag tranny of a 2.4 is the same as the 2.2, or it changes like the isuzu?
- If does fit, do they have the same gear ratio?

THANKS again for your help!!!!!

a 2.2/2200 Isuzu will work, if you swap your bell housing with the one on that trans. There are slightly gear ratios, but some seem to like them (lower crusing RPM on the highway)

the 2200/eco/2.4 all have the same gearing in the Getrags (for the J-bodies), and like the Isuzu, you would need to swap the bell housing on the trans, to bolt it to the 2.4

Each engine found in the 3rd Gen J-body has its own bell housing bolt pattern. None of them are interchangable between the engines. To use a trans that was bolted to a engine other then what you have in your car, you will need to swap half the trans case with one that botls to your engine. In your case, you have the Isuzu stock, so you can use half of your case, with half of a donor trans (like from the 2.2/2200)
