does anybody know about the polyurethane transmission mounts. what do they do and would it be worth it. matter of fact where are the transmission mounts on a 2000 2.4 cavalier. i'm going to buy the upper and lower motor mounts and i ran across a package that includes transmission mounts. i know about the motor mounts just don't know about the tranny mounts. your input would be helpful. thanks
They work with any 5 speed tranny in the J's, so yes they will work with your car.
They work like the engine mounts. Basically they take the torque that is due to tranny shift and help transfer it to the wheels. They are a helper mod, and most people here well agree that they are worth it. Keep in mid, like the engine mounts, they do add vibrations.
I have not done them to my car yer, but thay are on the list of things to be done once my G/F gets her own car. I just don't want to listen to her whining
Just did them please do yourself a favor and spend 220 on all the mounts well 220 if you have the ecotec im sure you can get all the mounts for a 2.4 or a 2.2 for around 150 or 100 well worth it in any application

for these mounts are they in any way visible and accessible from underneath the car? if i was to take it to the shop and lift the car up would be able to see them and reach them is what i mean to ask.
Did mine a couple of weeks ago. Wasn't to terrible to do it, but wasn't the cake walk I thought either. As always, make sure the trans has some support underneath it. I don't have ABS so the rear one was actaully quite easy to get to with a couple of 9" long extensions stacked up for two of the three bolts, the third was done from under the car. the bolt that mounts to the car itself was done using an end wrench and took FOREVER as there is limited space.
The front was a bigger ain as you have to drop the washer fluid bottle/bong to get to the bolt for the front, but the three bolts that hold the mount to the tranmission are easily accessiable. Overall should take a couple of hours if you take your time, if your really thrash on it then you can do it in less. Took me a lot longer as I was playing around while doing it.
I will see if I can get some pictures of it later, though maybe a little tough as I won't be home till after dark.
As a side not, there is a center pin on the mount, make sure that you have the right onw for the right mount as they are different lenghts *thinking that the rear one was shorter, but don't quote me on that.
