I have noticed that the transmission has a whine at under 2200 rpms. This is in every gear and seems loudist in 5th gear. The noise does go away at higher rpms, is this the spider gears or something else. The car is a 1995 sunfire 5speed. I also noticed that the trans fluid when cold is showing just above the add line. Does GM have a manual trans additive?

What are some signs that the spider gear is broken or almost broken? Is it dangerous to drive if it is broken?
