Well the final piece of getting my Z24 back on the road again full time. I got a quote today for $550.00 for everything at one of the local shops. My car has 183,000 miles so what do you think? How much did you pay and what clutch do you guys have? Thanks

$550 doesn't seem too terrible. Just do it yourself, and you'll save a lot of money. I put in a used tranny, new throwout bearing, SPEC Stage 2 clutch, and all new bolts, fluid, etc. for around $800.

jesus i cant tell you how much ive saved by doing all my work myself, you should see if thats what you can do, its worth it not only to save, but learn more about what your blowing up lol, if not, 550 aint bad, first time i broke my flywheel i had to pay 1100 to get it replaced, and they @!#$ everything up anyway, first and only time i've taken it to a shop, and i only did it cause i had no choice.(daily driver+job=not a whole lot of time)
I love how ppl dont answer a question of how much it would cost to get done at a shop, I once asked how much a timing chain and tensioner would cost to be replaced at a shop and no one person on here actually helped me. . . . dont get me wrong guys i understand where you are coming from you can save a ton of money and learn a lot about the car but some of us just dont have the means or the know how to do these kind of things
Needless to say, i'd say for $550 that sounds very reasonable for the amount of work it takes to put in a clutch, other wise call around and get a few quotes locally thats what i had to do when i had the question of how much something would cost to be fixed.

As retarded as this sounds i do all the work on my 2 Camaro myself. My Cavalier is my daily driver. I did do the plugs and some other small stuff but i might play around with the idea of doing it myself. I have a 95-00 Cavalier/Sunfire how to guide. Who knows... I called a parts store i can get the clutch kit for $229 and do it myself i save $320. But if i go to the one shop its only $550.00 for everything thats only 2 1/2 days work

Well, if you have $550 to spend, I would consider it. That's only because I know how much of a pain it can be. The first time was fine, but I don't think I would want to do it again. Then again, I swapped in an upgraded tranny, so there were modifications that were needed which made it that much worse. Either way, remember to have the flywheel resurfaced for the new clutch. And while you are in there, put in a new throwout bearing. Might as well do everything at once so there won't be any doubts or worries.

I did my clutch in 2 days. If you have the skills to do it. I would seriously consider it.
If you do do it yourself heres a tip. When reinstalling the tranny use some bolts smaller in diameter than the ones that hold it on, better if it was just unthreaded stock. Use those as alignment. Took two hours trying to reinstall mine and then I tried that and it took 10 minutes.

I guess thats when you pick up the phone, and a phone book and call around. We cant do it for you. Labor rates, pricing, taxes...... its all different across the Nation..... This is a car enthusiast site...... for the most part, we work on our own cars, or other member cars..... and we give tips on how to work on your own car.
$550 doesnt sound that bad for parts and labor...... since its usually $800 + around here for that. (I charge $250 to install a clutch and flywheel....... hell, I charge $250 to put an engine in too......)
