After start up if i put my car in gear there is a grinding. All gears engage but is hard to get into a different gear when coming up to a stop. When at a stop and the clutch pedal in, it doenst grind but when I let the pedal out and it in neutral, it still grinds. I put it up on a lift and when I turned the wheels over you can hear metal on metal sound bad. Is it the clutch or transmission?? And how could I tell for sure? Its a 2001 z24 5spd.

sounds to me like a syncro, but put the car in 3rd gear, rev it up to about 25-3000 and dump the clutch, if it dies imidiatly then cluch is good, if it "slipps" then dies clutch is pooched
