count me as the next victim of the getrag. lost second gear completely today. first it was just popping out of gear now no gear at all. sounds so sad.

I'm getting a used one through my work for $400 with 11,000 miles on it. I just broke something in mine and will tear it apart once i get the new one up and running, but I think the spider gears or the ring gear of the diff is broke cus i can see the diff gear through the drain plug hole on the tranny and when i move the tires it won't move at all.

2004 should still have warranty, so it should be free to you. You need special tools to get the Getrag's apart, so it's not easy for the DIYer. Talk to you local GM dealer and a few tranny shops for an idea of how much to fix, but it's hard to put a price on without knowing what all needs to be replaced (synchros for sure, maybe a shift for or 2).

found one for $350 with 5000 miles out of an 04 think i will get it

happen to my 2nd gear synchro at about 7000-8000 miles.. fixed under warrenty. they told me its a commen problem and i need to shift softer/slower. lol then they put it down as driver abuse.. ehh. it was covered under warrenty.
i wish i had got the extended warranty!
at the time my parents were cosigning and they said i didnt need it. damn it!
