In my opinion no one should use this, at all.
I got the shiftplus because it was cheaper than the autotrans, big mistake. From day one i should have noticed it didnt work well with my car, whenever it was turned on my trac off light would come on. Well that was good for racing, but i got into the habit of leaving it on all the time. Normally the trac off light would go off when i turned the shiftplus off, but after a while it wouldnt go off. Then when it was on i would get some crazy shifting, driving in a high gear with a low RPM, the RPMS would bounce up and down by sometimes as much as 1000 RPMS, like the trans could not decide which gear to stay in. At first this only happened with the shiftplus on, but then it started happening when the shiftplus was off. Also the trans would slip like crazy. I couldnt get above 3500 RPMS without the trans slipping between the gear shifts. If the shiftplus was on, it wouldnt slip. I had another problem where if i was in making a sharp turn, like a 90 degree turn around a block, if the trans downshifted while i was making this turn, it wouldnt go into a gear. The car would lurch and didnt want to get into gear unless i let off the gas.
So finally yesterday i got fed up with it. I took the shiftplus off, and took the car in for some warranty work. Well their trans specialist scaned a code for a miss shift at high RPMS cleared the code took it for a drive with the GM diagonostic tool, shifted just fine. The trans works so much better now. No more slippage than what i used to get before the shiftplus, which is very minimal.
I cant remember who said this, but i like this explanation. Imagine a car thats stuck in snow and ditch or something along those lines. With the shiftplus its like your ramming the car out of the ditch, sure it works but it causes damage. The autotrans is more like pulling it out because you can control how much power to use, so you can slowly add more and more when needed.

That's basically what it comes down to. You guys have had more issues with a cheaper priced part. It comes down to the saying of "You get what you pay for".

some people (in fact, even a close friend of mine) said that the autotrans also was causing some wacky shifting....
hence why i have yet to put either one on.

the AutoTrans is adjustable. so if you are experiencing "wierd" shifting or whatever, try adjusting line pressure
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
Ive had mine for several months now and have had no issues. I leave it on stage one though, If i go to the track or something I change it to stage 2 but other than that I dont use it on 2. Ive heard if you leave it on the highest setting all the time it can kill the tranny. I know from my experience on the highest setting it shifts really really hard and all the time like that is definately not good.

Yeah,
]I've had the autotrans on about 3 diff occasions over the course of two cars.
On my last go around I got the funky shifts n such.
So I had to take it off.
Hey Black Guy, I'll be taking back tha tautotrans once you get your turbo my friend.

Remember....syringes go in the RED waste basket.
B&M Shiftplus killed the tranny in my '96 Z. Though I do blame myself for driving around with it on the highest setting, but it kept feeling weaker and weaker, so finally I turned it off one day, and yay slippage!
I fixed the problem immediately though and bought a 5 speed.
had it for a year, not one problem,
I've had mine on for 6 months, and no problem. But I don't use mine all the time. Just when at the track.
i think alot of you people blaming b&m shiftplus either didnt install it right or something.
Trac off light means you installed it wrong. I spliced the wrong wires at first, and had track off and check engine. Re did the wires correctly and bam no problems. Dont get me wrong for some reason even with the wrong wires spliced it still shifted hard.
As for the auto trans vs b&m
that is only if you tune it right.
what if i drive around all day with my b&m on stage 1
and you drive around all day with your auto trans set on highest.=
for everyone person that says b&m killed my tranny, killed my father, and raped my mom,(family guy quote for you all), there are probably 20+ that love the thing, and have had NO problems.
Still sorry to hear about your trans dude.

It's not the point of "this product will damage your car", it's the point that there are alot of inexperienced people when it comes to wiring on this site. They see a product for $40 that will help you shift better, instructions come with it and it's so simple and then they try to install it themselves and mess up....that's called room for error. The shift plus has a MUCH better room for error. Now the auto trans interceptor...if you screw that up just plugging it in, you need to get hit in the head with a jackhammer.
Also, comparing someone on B & M on "stage 1" and someone on the auto trans at the highest point is comparing apples and oranges. If you see that on the interceptor that it is too strong, turn it down. There isn't much "tuning" really involved....drive the car, shifts too hard? turn it down. That's it.

the 4t40 is know for a solonoid sticking and the shift plus and autotrans both agravate the issue
ive had both the shift plus and the auto trans , the autotrans sucked so bad it never shifted the same way twice , the shift plus the shifts are the same EVERY time
my 00 has over 100,000 on it and not 1 problem
I agree there is always room for user error, but if you cannot splice into these two wires with the directions on this site, you need to be wacked in the head with a hammer.
eitherway anything that helps an auto out i love. cheers all!
Just installed mine and have been testing it, i cant really say if its good or bad yet but so far i like it. and only on the 2nd setting it turns trac off. So far so good.
listen there is one super important part that you guys are missing. dont leave it on. if you only thing to worry about. only turn it on when you have to. other wise why bother. its just to much stress
"
boobs now with Riboflabin"
mine is on setting #2 and on all the time
this post is the biggest bunch of crap i ever read, i originally installed the bm shiftplus, at 37,500, i now have 79850 miles, i created the directions for the shiftplus, anyway my car still shifts as hard as the day i installed it, my mother also drives the car and turns it off whenever she gets in cus she hates the way it shifts, the car goes completely back to the stock feeling with no slipping, the funny thing is u guyz say the bm shifter cause more slipping sorry to burst ur bubble it does the exact opposite, it uses your clutches less because it engages firmer, so saying it has caused more slipping is a joke
then to say the autotrans is a better product is another joke, they both do the same thing, all they do is add resistence inline in the electrical, they both are identical other then 1 being 2 set resistors -bmshifplus and the other a reostat which is an adjustable resistor, both are identical and both can be made for 5 bucks from parts in radio shack
long story short, if your having massive tranny problems, you either screwed up the connections, didn't plug the tranny connector back in, or are just a moron.
Its not how fast your car goes....its how much nerve the driver has to push it that fast.
Can this thread die please? It's just a ton of opinions...we don't need the whole org to comment on this cause it's obviously 50/50 around here.

almost
i did install mine correctly, i did the exact same directions that were posted on this forum, with the pictures and all. I double and triple checked all my connections. It was connected right. Maybe they chaged the wire colors over the years maybe not.
Maybe the shiftplus didnt cause my problems and they would have happened either way. But i know when the shiftplus was on, my problems were alot worse.

Is the traction light supposed to come on when i switch to setting 2? and mine doesnt shut off when i put it back to the normal setting. i have to shut my car off for it to actually shut off.
mine did the same thing.

Had it over a year, and no problems. The only slit problem I had was when I wired it to the WRONG wire.
Checked it and rewired it. I only use setting 2 when I am at the track. I drive around in setting 1 sometimes.

Thats normal. Its saposed to do that.
the shift plus will not kill your transmission, it can make for more or less wear but taking from all of the people that have had auto trans issues how many of you have changed your trans fluid and filter at the proper service intervals?
i am above and beyond the threshold here, i use Type F fluid and the shiftplus. its like anything else, people have a car, they put the shiftplus in thinking "great this is going to help my shifting" when really they put it in a car with 9X,XXX miles on it and the transmission is already getting pretty worn, the shiftplus hides this slipping problem for the time being but eventually it will give up the ghost..
proper care and maint. will help all the time... leading cause to failure in an auto trans is lack of maint.
