Is there a company that can make a 6-speed manual for a 2003 Cavalier? That would be wicked cool I think.
no company ever and will never made one. it can be made but its a custom job. custom trannies = $$$$$$$

Not necessarily. Compared to many of the imports out there, such as the RSX-S and the GT-S that have 6-speed trannies, we've got gobs of torque all the way through our rpm band. This gives us a wider power band so we don't need such close gearing to take advantage of it.
With that in mind, having an extra gear may actually just slow you down in the quarter mile since you'd need to make an extra shift.
5th gear is already sized in such a way as to optimize the highway mileage so that wouldn't change either. The 6th gear would basically be identical to our 5th.
I'm not 100% sure but i think the 6 speed from a 2003+ Saab 93 should work. Like i said, i'm not 100% sure but its something to look into.

the saab 9-3 is a delta body, no? if so then youll face the same issues of mounting as you would if you used a SS cobalt tranny. i would use the ss tranny (LSD and 3.94 FDR!!) and maybe grab 1-2 off the saab (5-speed of course) for a better/more useful 1st gear if that is even possible. just some thoughts. people say you cant use those style trannies in a J but i have not personally looked into it and i doubt they did either.. good luck

Would there be a way to tune the Saab Tranny so it's the same through the first 5 gears, and the 6th gear would be mostly for the interstate?

1st gear even in my ohv is rediculously short... at the track by the time my tires finally catch traction, I have to shift into 2nd. The only thing I really find first useful for is burnouts
There isn't one, but I think a company should make a gear set conversion or something along those lines that would make all of our gears a bit taller. Of course, you could just change the FDR and do it that way but nobody makes those either.
maybe its time to start talking to engineered again about more tranny stuff for the getrags
as weasel said, it would be pointless. all a 6spd is is a tranny like ours, but has to O/D's, it'll got 4th, 5th, 6th(equal to our 5th)
I'm not sure if it would match our 5th or not. Cause our O/D isn't very much of an O/D if it is running around 3k for rpm at 55 to 60. But I might be wrong, since it has been a few months now since I have been able to drive my cav.
Just to add to the fray. It is somthing I've been considering for a while as a "final" mod (not quite there yet)

So our 5th gear is better than the Saab's 6th. RPM-wise.
No it isnt. 2.6496 is the f23 drive ratio for our cars. 2.5205 is the six speeds. 5th gear @ 80mph is 3k rpm in my car times .951279(ratio of difference) equals 2853.837rpm for the six speed if it had the six speed.

I'm not sure you could swap in/out gears out of the F35(cobalt SS) into the F23 (cobalts & 200+Js) I think they are made by different companies. (I know the F23 is Getrag, and I thought the F35 was too, but on their website
Getrag site they don't show anything for the F35 or the cobalt ss)

Another thing, the base Saab 5 spd looks like its the same tranny as the F35 (SS) and possible those with Cobalt SSs or those that swap the tranny in could also swap in the 5th gear (not 100% sure that would be the best gearing though)

sounds like the 2200's got the shortend of the stick. With my intake, header and exhaust on my ECO I've got torque everywhere!!!
No need for a 6th speed in the getrag, it's geared damn near perfect for our torque band. Compared to my buddy's scion, whos torque starts at around 2700, but when he shifts the revs only drop to 4000 so he doesn't really get anymore power.

2200 aleays get the short end of the stick. Ever sinse the eco came out a lot of companies give up on the 2200.
all i can say is make it work. make a mounting plate so it will fit our motor, and make a mount for it to fit in the j cars, and i know all of you say $$$$ but all it takes is time and some trick fab work.
