Okay guys i need some help. It doesnt do it all the time just here and there it started last week. About a month and half ago put in a new shifter cable car ran fine. Now last week i put it in 1st and let out of the clutch it grinds alil and pops out or it just pops out. then if i try it a time or 2 more it will go in. but then i can go to the next stop light and it will go in fine. If anyone can help me figure out whats gone bad i would greatly appriciate it . thanx

Perhaps a synchronizer? I have this problem on my 94 Cavalier going into reverse. This is because reverse in my transmission is a dogged gear. I hold pressure on the shifter with the clutch in, and slowly let it out and it slides in gear. It is just sometimes the dogs don't line up perfect. It might be a synchronizer.
its your synchros, dont be grinding to often or bye bye transmission.
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
it is definitely a synchro that would intale partial rebuild of the tranny, have to tear the insides out to get to it
The one, the only, ME.
I had the same problem in my 97 z24, with my B&M but all i had to do was cut out my original shifter bracket farther so the shifter had more room to travel and then I never had a problem again. If your using a B&M short throw then maybe that your problem. But if it a stock shifter Id say synchro.

Ditto on mine, except it wouldnt go into 1st at all, fixed less than an hour after it happened, now my f'in Throwout bearing isnt doing its job... (guess its time for a new clutch!)
