Hello everyone, I've done lots of forum searching about aluminum flywheels and i have read the pros and cons of gettting one. I like the idea of getting one, and i am willing put up with the ease of drivability.
but is it worth it? I have a 97 Cavalier 2.2 ohv. I just ordered a new spce stage 1 clutch and if im going to do the clutch i figure if i ever do want to get an aluminum flywheel now is the time.
Are the gains i will see worth the $350 I would spend on the flywheel? I'm in college and dropping this much money into my car has to be well justified.
Just looking for everyones opions, should i do it?

You will see the increase in HP you lost by the old flywheel. It will rev MUCH faster. Fidanza is the way to go on the flywheels. We have that one in stock. Since you are in that area it only takes an extra 15 min to install it. I never regretted putting one on my car.

Spec is the only other option, that i know of. Fidanza USE to make the Spec clutches but now Spec makes their own. Spec is about $50 more. I dont know if ACT makes one yet. Last time we checked they didnt.

What are you doing with the car? The light weight may hurt rather than help you in some cases.
I would say that in most cases you will be more than happy with the few more ponys to the ground and the engine reving up faster will get you in the meat of the power band much faster, which translates into faster track times.
I got a question for those that have the aluminum flywheel, how many tenths did you oick up from the aluminum flywheel in the 1/4 mile??
I have recently installed a spec stage 3 clutch and fidanza flywheel in my car but the slave that came with the kit iwas bad so i had to take it to a trans shop and have then R& R the slave with a new one. Hopefully ill have it back tommorow sometime and next weekend will have some updated track times.

I hear that with the aluminum fly wheel you'll lose some down low to midrange, but you'll get more top-end. Also an aluminum flywheel will wear out faster because it is aluminum. I got my stocker resurfaced and I dont regret it one bit. Good luck.

The aluminum flywheel will not war out faster, it has a steel insert that the clutch disk wear on, so it will last as long or longer than the stocker, and the steel insert is replacable shuld somthing happen to it.

Agreed in the long run you replace that insert for about $75 and you have a new flywheel again! Dont even have to resurface it.

The reason I didn't get a lightweight flywheel is becasue I autocross. Not enough low end power.
yeah, you better be making some nice low end powe (like a superchager would give) if you want the fly wheel to be all around effective.

I have a Fidanza and i love it but i have a 2.4 so i am not sure if Fidanza has it. May be they do. But Fidanza is a popular flywheel.

Fidanza has a flywheel for every engine for the 3rd gen cavaliers. 2.2 OHV, 2.4L and the ecotec. They even have them for the cobalt already.
