i just installed my B+M but its not short at all compared to two hondas that ive been in. its much smoother than the stock one but i was disapointed. anybody else have anything to say?
the only hard part was inlarging the the base without the proper tools other than that it went together easily and quick
You always complain don't you? If you don't like the parts, buy another car. All you did is complain and complain from day 1

Well i fo rone have been very happy with mine, much better than the stock shifter, but my shifter stick seeems to have some play in the ball and im not sure if thats normal or not.
But much better than stock.
And you cant compare this shifter to one for a honda the geometry os completely different, hell i knew a guy back in HS that had a 92 mutang that we put a hurst short throw in it and it literally had 1.5ins between each gate on the shifter, one of the tightest short throws ive ever seen, you couldnt miss a gear in that car if you tried.

HotRod: If you're getting some play, check to ensure that the upper o-ring hasn't become dislodged. Myself and others have replaced it with a slightly beefier one that one slip out as easily from under the retainer.

What year cavalier or sunfire? Where did you buy it from? Was it an actual B&M product you bought or a knock off? When you say its not short what do you mean by that? What is your def. of not short at all?
first gilles shut your mounth thanks, second im never happy i was wanting something simular to what my friends have so i was disapointed. i meant the trows were still kinda long in comparasin to what i wanted. it was genuine B+M from ebay in a unopened box, thanks for asking.
im probly going to cut the same same 2.5 inches off like i did my stock one .

Weird, If i cut mine 2.5" i would be shifting INSIDE the Console! Mine has like 2.5" above the console to the top of the knob now.

TRUST ME, its shorter...
when i put mine in my 03 fire i kinda thought the same thing... that was untill we picked up a 5 spd 04 cav for my girl... her car feels like a truck in comparison
going from stock to the b&m doesnt feel like a big difference because it was properly designed. now to go from the b&m to stock.. youl notice

Ok if you friend has a 2000 Cavalier it is going to be shorter than the 95-99 shifter. The 95-99 is shorter but it is not as short as the 2000. The throws are shorter. B&M had some constraint with the 95-99 shifter but it is better than stock.

I didn't like the B&M so much for the shorter height. My glee was the fact that the shifts are much crisper and faster.
A short shifter doesn't mean shorter column, it means faster shifting.
The factory available STI short shifter replaces the entire linkage.
