well... I'm having my trany rebuilt.
I bought the flywheel, trany mount and blocking ring from Karo (THANX MAN!!!)
I have the 3rd and 4th gear from the geo storm, the final drive ration 4.11 also from the geo storm, the team green lsd.
So i bring all my stuff to my mechanics and start to take everything apart.
first thing, the 2nd gear is bad, so i have to change it, then both collar are bad too, then the diff is really bad, so i bought the geor storm one. then trying to install the lsd from team green and it didn't fit, so i had to have it machine a little and it is really tight in there, i hope it wont be too tight and will be able to drive it without too difficulties! then the 3rd and 4th gear from the geo storm dont fit because its a little too high, so i have to get it machine too.Why didn't anyone here notice that or just didn't say anything about the machining for 3rd and 4th to fit!! also, my slave cylinder is bad (the one i got with my spec stage 2) my mechanics had one for 200 only...
that is alot of extra that i didn't expect and costing me 700$ more than what i was expecting!!!!!! that really suck, i was suppose to get new fender with new paint job, now i have to wait...
i hope that everything done to that tranny will be worth!!

...i feel your pain, bro. just had MY tranny rebuilt with almost the same parts you described (well, not gears from another car, but new spider gears from gm). my linkage was bent a bit, so wound upo having to change that as well. all in all, cost me about 3 grand.

I don't know that anyone ever used the 3rd-4th gear from a storm. I used them from a 2.2 Cav. trans. and they fit right in.
On the LSD the spider gears are supposed to be ground flat (there is a small ridge on the back of the gear) AND you want the blocks to fit tight or they will just slip like they always have...

I think you're trying to swap the wrong gears as well. As for this costing you as much as a new tranny, that sucks, but it will be FAR better than a stock tranny when all is said and done. Hope you don't have anymore setbacks.

I kind of have the same issue with my 4.11 rebuild. My gears were a little off, but it turned out that I didn't have them pressed together enough. Now 3rd lines up good and 4th is about 1/32 higher on the input shaft than the output shaft. The case is sealed now. All I have to do is finish bolting up 5th gear and I am done
My 2.2 3rd and rth gears came from a 2.2, differential and 4.11 parts came from a DOHC Geo Storm

yeah, my mechanics, told me that when the case is on, everything is fine and rotate well, but when he bolt up the 5th gear, its really hard to turn and also when he put the reverse, and turning it, it has a clicking noise.... he just dont know now, he thinks that its because of the 3rd & 4th gear. I dunno now.... i think i'll ask him to buy a 3rd and 4th of the 2.2 instead, since this one is supposed to be exactly the same shape of my 2.4 ones!!!
Its been 1 week now that my car is in the garage and i miss her. i'm so impatient to try this set up! I'll let you guys know whats up with this on monday!

so is it because of my 3rd and 4th gear that when i bolt 5th, it doesn't spins freely or it could be something else??? because without 5th, i spins well!

Double check to make sure you have the right gears in. Sounds funny, but mine would turn freely until I put the outer case on and then it wouldn't turn at all. I doubled checked my numbers and I had the wrong 4th gear in
2.4 gear ratios
3rd - 1.33:1 ( 40 teeth, 30 teeth )
4th - 0.92:1 ( 36 teeth, 39 teeth )
2.2 gear ratios
3rd - 1.44:1 ( 42 teeth, 29 teeth )
4th - 1.02:1 ( 38 teeth, 37 teeth )

I've got this setup in our drag car...... 2.4 trans w/ 2.2 3rd/4th gear....... and it USED to have the Isuzu Spider gears......... now it has a welded diff.
If its tight when you put it together, look at your ring and pinion....... make sure you have the right ones...... otherwise it will cock, and make noise w/ the case off, and when you get the case on, it will bind.
