Yes, you will need to replace the guage panel and the console indicator, but the shifter itself will be fine.
If you don't already know you'll have to replace the PCM for one that had a 4 sp, since the PCM controls the operation of the transmission. 4T40

^^ What about the shifter CABLES? Will the 3spd cables work with the 4spd cables? Im doing this 3spd auto to 4 spd auto swap myself and was just wondering.

yea i want try to do this 3spd to a 4spd auto tranny swap bc my 3spd in my 96 sunfire haves a rpm from 2800 to 3000 rpm when i go about 60mph

i swapped a 3 speed for a 4 speed you have to change the shifter for the 4 speed mine didnt lock in park and i couldnt turn off the key i swapped the shifter and my problem was solved !

by the way your rpms on a 4 speed 4t40e wil run about 1900 to 2200 depending on how fast you are running !

I'll bet your rpms could be in that rage no matter what car you have...lol
