I just read cavifiend's post on the centerforce D/F clutch and Fidanza aluminum flywheel problem and I just want to know if anyone else has used this combination on the 2.2L with the same problems? If not has anyone used this combination with good success(mine are getting installed next week? Those who have is 15-20hp a reasonable expectation in HP gains?
Somebody help a brother out.
...no problem brother.
Heheheh...i have a 2.2lohv, and am in the good position to give you advice: i JUST had the d/f clutch and fidanza wheel installed in mine, along with a phantom grip lsd, and a b&m short shifter.
everything works great (though the shifter needed some MAJJJJJOR modding to get it to work right...i would not suggest buying it...the techs were very reputable, and they had to grind and fab and adjust forever to get it to work properly...first i couldnt find 1st gear...then couldnt find reverse...it was awful). but the flywheel revs nice, and though a lot of people complain about this particular clutch slipping, ive expereinced no problems with it..though I havent really gotten on it much. still in the break in period. i dunno about a hp gain...doubt the flywheel will ADD any hp, but itll help you get to the powerband faster, which is where your engine is making more hp.
hope this helps.

Thanks it does. I have heard others saying that you just have to cut off the reverse lockout 4 the shifter. The shop is only charging 50 bucks for the shifter install(hope that stands). How about that LSD? Does it help any with torque steer in 1st?
How bout any one else. Any stories or experience to share?
I have the Team Green LSD insert.. pretty much identical to the Phantom Grip unit but with much stiffer springs. It works mint
I did my own B&M short shifter install. Only took me like 30 minutes. Adjusting the shift cables IS a pain, but it's a hassle even with the regular shifter. The results are worth it. It's such a simple unit to install, I can't imagine paying someone else to do it for me. I also lopped off the reverse lockout hunk of metal. It's hideous. I also used a Momo shifter knob on it, instead of the aluminum B&M knob. Didn't like the look of that one.
I have a SPEC stage 2 clutch... regular flywheel was good enough for me tho.

I don't have a 2.2 but i went with SPEC i know some people had sucess with Centerforce. I have see more bad stories withe Centerforce than other clutches and not just for J-bodies. I also see how certain parts perform on other cars and a lot do not like but there are those that like it.

I myself would suggest a SPEC clutch. It has gotta be the best aftermarket clutch I have driven with. I drove a focus with a centerforce so IMO the SPEC is better.
And I would get a flywheel resurface and not an aluminum one. Just my .02

fo shizzle. Ive only done intake and full exhaust so i should be able to launch all day with the centerforce DF clutch. If it cant handle the power my motor is puttin out at 3-4K RPM it shouldn't be labeled performance. I will prob. switch it out to a Spec Stage 4 when it is no longer a daily driver and has a turbo. Till then I should be ok with the DF clutch. Anybody who disagrees let me know.
As for the shifter install im a mechanical idiot so I wouldnt dare mess with all those parts.
....stage 4 is gonna be too much (so ive heard). probably real real grabby, too heavy a pedal, not real streetable...probably wont last as long, either. most of the people on this or with a turbo go with stage 2 specsw, or possibly stage 3.
..like i said, i havent launched it real hard yet with the lsd (the horror stories ive heard about centerforces slipping seem to stem from people who didnt break em in properly), but i have noticed it does "power" out of corners a lot better, grabs better. and the aluminum flywheel isnt as bad as most people say, it isnt as touchy as ud think. more good than bad, id say...just a tiiiny little bit tricky when say, going over speed bumps or rolling from an uphill stoplight...but other than that, great.
good luck.

A SPEC II is going to be your best bet. Great for daily driving but eough if you get 250-300HP to the wheels.

Just curious why don't you reccommend the Aluminum flywheel? I was talking with some guy and he said because it is a lot weaker than the stock one. Is this true? Thanks.
That's a good question. Y not the alum. Flywheel? I hear its the best bolt-on way 2 free up HP and that most consider the gains equivalent to an ecu upgrade. Just what I've heard not my personal experience.
By the way I'm kinda mad I bought the DF cuz I found out SPEC kits come with TO and pilot bearings and I spent about 180 extra to get those.
Hindsight is 20/20
I took out my aluminum flywheel as it just made the car hard to drive daily. My car weighs 2800lbs at it's lightest, without me in it, and I had to slip the clutch to pull away smoothly in traffic as there was no inertia left to pull you away from a stop. The car was WAY too easy to stall, and just no fun in stop and go traffic. It was great once you got rolling, the top end pull was amazing, and in a lighter car it might not be as bad to get rolling, but it didn't work well in mine. It also made my racing launches inconsistant, as it wanted to either spin or bog, not alot of room for error, so that's my $.02. The guy I sold it too loved it, so maybe it's just my problem, but that's why I'd tell you to make sure it's what you want before buying, as it's not cheap to have removed if you don't like it.

Some people haev had that issue. I drive in traffic and don't have those issues but it depends on the driver and what you want. I know i wanted and yes on racing it takes some getting use to.

Ohhh ok now I see what u mean. It is a daily driver right now but its the same car I learned to drive stickshift on so getting used to it might be tricky but I should be ok as most of my driving is done on the highway. Thanks for clearing that up though.
