My buddy and i both have standard cavs and when you switch gears if its under 2k rpm it makes a ratteling sound like the trannys about to fall apart, or one of hitlers tanks or something. were shifting at the right points so its not too low for the next gear or nething it just seems to make that noise at 2k or less. will tranny mounts get rid of this noise? god this sounds like a newbee question i hope someone understands and can help out.
I personally dont know much about the tranny mounts, as I have not done much to my '05 Cavy yet. But that rattling noise is the car dying. You probably know this, and I doubt tranny mounts will completely stop this rattling noise, in fact I think tranny mounts work similar to engine mounts. They hold the tranny in place better so you might actually get more vibration at low rpms. But this will mean a more solid shift, I think.
You really shouldnt be switching gears that low anyway, unless you really dont like power and like stalling your car out on the road.
the rattling noise is not the car dying. GM has acknowledged that between 1-2k rpms in first and second (i havent noticed it in any other gear) there is a rattling sound. sounds very similar to pennies in a can, and this only happens with the 02+ getrag transmissions. they recommended putting the saturn fluid in it, but i dont know if it does any good.

also there was a recall on the clutch pipe you can see if your car is on that has the older model but that was more of a squeak which I did have that got replaced. (it wasn't a full blown recall its more of a, if you bring your car in for complaint of trans noise they check to see if you have the new one) if your dealer doesn't know of it they can contact Phillips chevrolet in orland park IL.

Why would you shift to 2nd under 2k rpm's? I never shift under 3k and never had a problem.

i got the 00 getrag. and yes i do it to save gas. whynot its going up in price not down. yeah it only does it in the first two gears, but if its been acknowledged then im all set, was just wondering what it was.

i may have been mistaken. i forgot that it was 00+ that had teh getrag. i was thinking 02+ because thats the eco years
