HELP!!! My car stalls when I put it in gear!!!

I have a 95 2.2l Cavalier, and I think it has the 4 speed auto. I'm not sure if this is transmission based or what, but when I put the car in 1, 2, drive, or reverse, it stalls. It starts fine, and it will stay running in either park or neutral, but when I put it in any other gear, it immediately stalls. I've searched and found that it may be my plugs? I have Bosch platinum +4's. I've also heard something about a plug that I could unplug or something, like a synchronizer or something? VERY lost and in great need of help. Does anyone have any ideas?

To me it sound like your car is stalling under a load. Generaly this is an ignition related problem. Since your car is a push rod engine you have a set of plug wires. As for your plugs, bosch general don't run well in general motors cars. I would recomened the proper AC delco plug for you application.

If your wires are original I would changes them too with AC delco wires. Even if it is not the problem it can't hurt if you have high miles. Also if you have a check engine light on, it would be a good Idea to check what codes you have.

if you have D 2 1 , then you have a 3spd auto

and alot of time if you get that problem the tcc is engaged , and will stall the car once it goes into gear

well, I pulled the plug and have been driving it ever since, not a single problem.

was probably the torque converter lockup solinoid. I had that go bad on a 2nd gen once. if you were moving, it was fine, but when you stop it acted like a manual in gear without the clutch being pushed in. if you unplug the solinoid, it keeps the the torque converter from locking up, therefor you establish no permanent connection between the tranny and the engine. not the best thing in the world, but it will allow you to drive the car until you can get it replaced. but you need to get it replaced.

It's because the do-hickey wasn't installed on the right what-cha-ma-call-it, and now the round thing is borked. The oblong thing is probably FUBAR now and will need to be replaced with a square widget.
