how bad is it to go throught the gears on a 4t40E with the B&M shiftplus on setting 1? like going 1-2-3-D, i know when im racing i have it on setting 2 and run each gear almost to redline, good or bad?

Well heres my view. I have a 99 z24 with the shiftplus. At the track I have never been able to improve my times by shifting through the gears. Also there is no way possible that you/I are as consistant and accurate with shifting, as the computer of the car is. Also I have heard that downshifting in a automatic is very very bad. Transmission speicalist will also tell you this. I have a friend that did this a lot in his saturn and his car is no longer on the road, because of a blown tranny.

For some reason if I leave it in 3rd gear not drive my car seems to be about .1 tenth faster in the 1/4 mile. Have not proven this Yet.

I also use to up-shift through the gears while racing, but found it to be less reliable/accurate on track times.

My car has 117,500 miles on it and it makes it to the drag strip at least 4 times a month.
I have 2 first places in my class from this summer, so I guess I am doing something right.

ALL in ALL just leave it in gear.

My 2 cents.

Well.. it's called an automatic for a reason.

If you have one of those electronic hacks (shiftplus, interceptor, etc) that increases your line pressure, it's going to shift closer to redline than it would stock.. so.. really, not much point.

The real killer of auto trannies is HEAT. Get an auxiliary tranny cooler if you're going to bag on it constantly. I ran slicks and 85hp of nitrous thru mine over and over and over... it still went like it was new at 60,000 miles... but I had a heavy duty cooler, full synthetic tranny fluid, and changed the filter on a regular basis.

Take care of it, and you can rag on it quite a bit

Oh.. the other killer... neutral drops... bad

John you are a bright individual. I have a few questions about my 4T40E. I too had the shiftplus. my 1/4 time went from 15.7 to 16.5... my 1/4 speed decresed from 86. mp down to 81 mp. any ideas? i have 37000 miles on the tranny.

Well, honestly the Shiftplus wasn't designed for the 4T40E.. it was for the 4T60E, but it does work... though not as well as the Interceptor (strictly, in my opinion... as I've only ever used the Interceptor which WAS designed for the 4T40E..)

Are these runs consecutive, back to back runs? Or are we talking about different days? If the latter.. it's hard to compare. There's many other factors at work here.

ive had nothing but crappy shifting with the interceptor , it never shifted the same twice , unless it was all the way up

the b&m shifts the same all the time ,everytime

my 00 2.4 cav has over 100,000 miles , and no problems yet
