long time since i have worked on a getrag... but usually you just pour in lube till it comes out or you can just reach it with your pinky through the filler plug. I cant remember the exact location of the filler plug so i dont know which methood to use. the usual way I did it was if it was a side plug I'd pour fluid in till it started to dribble out. For top mounted filler plugs add till you can reach the oil withy your pinky. i'd pick up a few containers, say 5qrt's or so...you can always bring back what you didn't use.

Just as an added tip...if you dont already know....if you attach a 1 foot or so piece of rubber hose to the gear lube bottle you can get the lube in usually without getting a lot of it all over you.

I've been told the Getrag is 2 quarts. I think I used around that. There's a top fill hole, and a side level check hole. Check it properly, and you'll have the right answer

Depends on if you have the rattle or not. If it rattles, overfilling is recomened per the GM bulletin. If you do decide to overfill, don't use the check plug. You'll just drain out the excess that GM says to put in.

Hey guys, sorry to take this in a bit of a different direction. What do you mean "if it rattles"? My tranny makes a bit of noise but its fine. 96 sunfire GT. Thanks!

No prob...and just as an aside...if you overfill things you blow seals...its ok if you do it every now and than by mistake. but things like engines especially, overfilling causes excess pressure build up and your crank also has to spin through that oil causing horse power loss. Try to keep within the factory specs of fluid capacities. but in a manual tranny i wouldn't worry too much...it should be ok as long as you didnt put in like more than a quart over recomended level...

Cheers
