Switching over to a 5-speed?
Monday, August 01, 2005 5:08 PM
As most of you know, im starting on swapping the L67 motor and getrag 5-speed into my car. Heres my question...

I know I have to use an 00-05 getrag shifter linkage and cables, i need to get those ordered, and im gonna use the B&M short shifter to. My first question is... can i use the isuzu 5-speed motor mounts for this transmission? and also, can i use the clutch and brake pedal assembly from an isuzu 5-speed (including the other junk that goes along with the clutch pedal)?

Just wondering if that stuff is different

I know the mounts are different between the Isuzu and Getrag (for the J-cars). The rear bracket mount is completely different.. the front is workable, but still different.

Nate (c24na) went from a 95 2.2L 5 speed (Isuzu) to a 01 2.4L 5 speed (Getrag) and he had to cut out the rear mount and weld in the new one (available pretty cheap from GM) and drill new holes in the front mount to make it work.

Eh, no idea. I'd imagine the gas/brake pedals are the same.. the clutch might work, but the master cylinder and line to the slave is probably going to be different. If you can take some pics of them, I'll tell you if they're the same or different from the ones I installed

Gas and brake the same unless you don't mid a wide break pedal which you WILL accidentlly hit sometimes when you go to push the clutch in(speaking form the experience).
Master is different, but it will hook to the Isuzu pedal.
Shifter cables are different cause the shifter is and it will not connect.
Tranny mounts are WAAAAAAAAAY different between the Gerag and the Ishizu.
The mount brackets tho, you can use the front lower one you just have to re-drill the middle hole and ahve a little piece off to clear the tranny when you go putting the tranny in.
The rear bracket has to be cut off all the way cause it is on the flat part of the rail and you have to buy one from GM that has a slant to it that weld on the more inner slanted ran of the rail almost to the fire wall.
The part number is.22629361.

The line to the throw out bearing (slave cylinder is different fitting wise) and the throw out is different as well.
You can reuse your clutch fluid reservoar tho. and the pedal and that is about it.

BTW, when I say shifter I mean the whole shifter assembly not just the stick, and it will be pretty easy for you because on the auto you won't have to cut anything but just weld those in, and drill a hole for the master cylinder.
Clutch pedal is seperate from the brake and gas which are together.

Anything else, as I have done both auto to Isuzu and Isuzu to Getrag swaps. lol
and 3 speed auto to 4 speed auto.OHV to LD9 to Ecotec.

yea, he pretty much covered everything......

when going from auto to 5 speed, use 2 of the rear mount brackets (part SunCavi listed) and "rework" one to fit the front, thats what I did, and it worked out great.

I pulled the whole dash out when installing the clutch master to the fire wall....... it was just easier for me.
