I swapped my 5 speed isuzu tranny(98 cav Z24) out for a 5 speed isuzu? tranny from a 97 Grand AM GT with the same motor thats in my car. I got a brand new axle for my 98 cavalier Z24 put it all and and when I try to go forward the axle pops out of the tranny. I did this 3 times before I grabbed the axle from the Grand AM. I put the axle in my cav from the Grand AM and the axle didnt fall out but it broke.
NOW, I pulled the axle apart when I was pulling it from the grand am. If you pull an axle apart will it push back together and be useable or is it bad once its apart?
Rite now im thinking that for some reason the axle for the cav wont work so I have to use the axle from the GA but I just need to know if it broke becuase I pulled it apart or if it broke because its to short.

Hmm... you'd figure the tranny case between the Grand Am and the Cavalier would be the same... kinda odd!!
Measure the axle length.. the J-car should be the right length (assuming the tranny case is the same size). Measure the one you took out, compared to the N-car one.
As far as pulling them apart... if the cv boot is intact, you might be able to just pop it back together. It's not bad for them.. I've done the same thing, but I popped it right back in as soon as it happened and it was fine.
Very strange...

Ive done it before as well but with GM factory axles. These are remanufactured axles and it seems that once they are apart there is no popping them back together. The axle from the grand am and the axle from my cav both look to be the same length and look identical for the one said but its hard to tell cause the one from the grand am was pulled apart and is now broken apart/seperated. I just swapped out the "C" clamps at the tranny end of the axle, im gonna go out now and see if that did it. If not More than likely ill be buying another axle and putting my cavi tranny back in.

Well after swapping out the snap ring on the end of the axle it seems to be doing ok. I cought second gear with less than 30 lbs of tire presssure on Zrated tires. I think it if it was going to come out again or fall apart it would have done it then.
