JBP shift kit for 2nd gen
Sunday, July 24, 2005 12:51 PM
hey guys, i got a JBP shift kit used but never installed. I have yet to install it in my 1990 z24, i had planned on doing a tranny filter and flush, and installing the shift kit at the same time. i am a little bit reluctant to install it, because i dont really know what its going to do to my transmission, like i heard it will shift harder and rev higher, but i dont really know what to expect, just hoping somebody on here might be able to explain it to me

If it's anything like an Auto Trans interceptor or B&M Shift plus, it's worth installing. As far as damage it causes, if you turn it up too high it might cause some damage as far as the line pressure being too high and maybe making your tranny run a little hotter.

I say install it and you should be fine. Also a little correction on what you said, it does make you rev higher or shift at higher rpms...that has to deal with your PCM.

that is a shift kit if thats what you bought and it will increase the line pressure which results in less slippage which results in faster shifts

Oh ok...that's something totally different than what I was thinking about.

By the looks of the kit in there picture, it's the same kit made by TransGo(part # SK125). TransGo doesn't list the kit on there web site, but I've seen the kit. Your locally owned Tranny shop should be able to get it through TranStar Industries. It's the most complete shift kit for the TH125C/3T40 transmission.
As for as any damage, it prevents damage by reducing clutch/band slippage TCC lock up and other problems.

that is indeed the kit i have, sounds good, i was just unsure what it would do, and wether i would like it or not...my car isnt a daily driver, but not a track car either...some highway driving, and some around town....i guess i will install soon! think i will notice a big difference, and like it?

It will have firmer, quicker shifts. You'll probably notice it will run the RPM's little higher before it shifts. It's great if you bracket race, much more consistant shifts and ET's.
