2nd Gear

I have a 96 cavalier 2.2 with the isuzu tranny, and the other night 2nd gear on my car stopped working. My car will shift fine into 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and reverse, but when i push the clutch in to put it into 2nd, the shifter will move into posistion then ill release the clutch and the shifter starts grinding and it pops out of 2nd. I know its not clutch related because i had a new clutch and slave cylinder installed 3000 miles ago. Ive narrowed it down to the synchros or shift cables but on my way to work today i tried to shift into 2nd and it actually worked, so i shifted to third then tried to downshift to 2nd but it started grinding again. From what i understand if it was the shift cables more than just 2nd gear would be out, and if it was the synchro then 1st or 2nd wouldnt work, so im really confused as to what the problem could be.

To me, it's a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, "Hey, can you give me a hand?" You can say, "Sorry, got these sacks."

Nevermind found the problem....the shift cable for 2nd, 4th, and reverse is "stretched" where it enters the rubber boot that connects it to the transmission, you can see the metal wire coming out. Is it possible to adjust this or should i plan on dropping about $150 for some new cables?
