97 2.2 here and when i shift sometimes in to 2nd gear it grinds a little bit. people have been telling me that my synchros are going out. what is that and can that be adjusted or fixed. thanks nate

yeah its probly your synchros and no they can't be adjusted. the only fix is to replace them. the synchros bring the speed gear up to the same speed as the output shaft. that way when you shift the dog teeth don't grind. go to http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission.htm that will show you all about manuals. it has animated drawings and all kinds of stuff. go through the whole thing. it talks a bit about synchros at the end. hope this helps. good luck.
