1998 Cavalier 2.2 Automatic NEED HELP PLEASE

Hey guys, I'm a DSM Guy actually. But I purchased this 1998 Cavalier A/T as my daily driver. And well, the transmission is shot? It goes into park and reverse no problem, I could drive around all day long in reverse. Now I can put the shifter into D, 2, or 1, however nothing happens when I step on the gas. Simply free revs. From your experience is this a common thing on this trans? An easy fix? Please help as I need this car to get around. Thanks alot guys!

Hate to break it to you man, but your transmission is dead.

Basically what you described means that all the forward gears are completely shot. Autos will usually tend to begin slipping in certain gears, and then progressively get worse. Sounds like yours went out with a bang, all at once.

The only thing you can do is get the trans completely rebuilt, or junk it and get a new one. Either way its going to cost you come money, probably over $1K.

Your best bet it probably to take it into a shop and see what they can do for you.

Good Luck.

Just got my gf's tranny replaced, $200 for the transmission, $700 in labor.
