ok well im gonna try to make this short, first off i have a 99 Z24 5spd, has about 65k miles on it, ive noticed for quite some time that there is a ton of slop in my shifter, ive looked at the housing and it looks as though it is wore out, however i have ordered a b&m short throw to fix that issue. But heres the major problem... The past month or so ive noticed that going into third gear the shifter seems to catch a bit, its kind of harder to put into gear, under a slow easy shift is goes in just fine with no noise, but under a harder speed shift 3rd takes a bit more effort to get into and kind of makes a grinding noise, no other gear does this, however i can feel that the shifter itself isnt working great, it is just terribly sloppy and has alot of play in it, any ideas? I honestly know nothing about manual transmisions so any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
Shift cable, I had the same problem
shift cable huh ? I actually thought that might be it, so how do i go about fixing it? is there an adjustment i can play with? or does it require new cables? and if so where and how much are they? lemme know asap please, thanks for the help
let me know how you make out. i'm having the same prob.
1/8 9.32 @ 75.231mph
1/4 14.54 @ 93.46mph
same when i go into third only when im racing it grindes a liitle.
if it was the cables wouldnt 1st and 5th do the same?
it sounds to me like synchros.
me too... 3 gear synchro sounds like its begining to give out...
I have a problem where I can move the shifter in any direction without any shift gates obstructing the movement of the shifter. I think it's a cable???
My third gear was the only one that did it. I thought it was the synchros but then the shift cable broke one day when being a little rough with it.
crappy tranny? just my opinion ,my 98 z24 pops out of second when giveing it @!#$ aka driving fast it seems maybe the clutch doesnt release or crappy tranny. i hate it rough shifting and poping long shifts its crap low buck from GM
